Our Story
I saw two problems on the same road.
Good clothes dumped by the roadside. People nearby who couldn't afford to replace their torn ones. That moment became Second Stitch.
How it began
A drive home. A question that wouldn't go away.
"I always believed that every problem has a solution, and it's better to be part of the solution than the problem. But for that, we have to find the real problem first."
I was driving back with my parents when I saw a pile of clothes dumped on the side of the road. Most of them were in good condition — ready to use with just a little fixing. A few feet away, I saw people wearing torn, old clothing because they couldn't afford new ones.
Two problems. Two different worlds. One road. I wanted to find a sustainable and profitable solution that could tackle both at the same time.
So I started with research. I sent out a survey and interviewed people to understand what they actually did with their old clothes. What I found: approximately 30 pieces of clothing are wasted per household every single year. Some passed them down, some donated, some gave them to helpers — but very few found their current methods convenient. The clothes were still ending up wasted. That brought us back to square one.
That's when Second Stitch was born.
The numbers behind the idea
We tested it. It worked.
To test the idea with a small sample, I collected 20 clothes from my community. I redesigned 5 and remade 7. Then resold 5 of the pieces and donated the rest.
5 out of 20 were profitably recycled — a 25% resale rate. Even if this scales down to 5% and expands globally, that's 2.5 million tonnes of textile waste saved annually.
The math works. The mission works. Now we scale.
The Process
Three R's. One mission.
Old clothes, new identity.
We take wearable but discarded garments and transform them into something you'd actually want to wear today. Think an oversized old tee turned into a fitted top, or a worn kurta reworked with embroidery and overdye into something entirely new.
If it can't be worn, it becomes something else.
Not every garment can be redesigned. Torn, stained, or heavily worn fabric gets a completely different life — pants become bags, shirts become pillows, sari scraps become floor mats. Nothing unusable is ever just thrown away.
Affordable fashion. Real impact.
Every redesigned and remade piece goes into our shop at accessible prices. What doesn't sell is donated directly to families and NGO partners. Reselling creates a profitable, self-sustaining model — so the mission never depends on charity alone.
What we stand for
Nothing goes to waste
Every scrap of fabric has a use. We find it.
Craft over convenience
We take the slower, harder path because the result is worth it.
Community first
We exist because of the people who donate, buy, and believe. They come first.
Radical transparency
We share our numbers, our process, and our failures. No greenwashing.
Where we're going
This is just the beginning.
In the next few years, we're planning to onboard tailoring units across the country, partner with NGOs, and tie up with logistics companies to scale this up nationwide.
We're also building a platform to teach people how to transform their own clothing — because this isn't about you or me. It's about all of us, together, as one community.
By the numbers
Be part of the solution.
Shop repurposed pieces, donate your old clothes, or just spread the word. Every action counts.
